UK F-35 Milestone Achieved, Mission Continues
April 24, 2026
Milestone Reached
Lockheed Martin ferried the 46th, 47th and 48th F-35B for the United Kingdom, fulfilling the Initial Procurement Phase and marking a key milestone in a partnership defined by shared commitment, capability and collaboration. This milestone comes as the UK government reaffirmed plans to procure a full fleet of 138 aircraft.
Ready for Action
The aircraft arrived at Royal Air Force Marham, home of the UK’s Lightning fleet. The UK is one of 20 nations — including 13 in Europe — that chose the combat-proven F-35, protecting national interests and supporting collective defense.
Powered by British Ingenuity and Industry
British workers not only help build aircraft for the UK but also contribute to the more than 3,500 F-35s expected over the life of the programme. This work drives innovation, supports more than 20,000 skilled jobs and strengthens the industrial base while contributing an estimated £45.2 billion to the UK economy, with £22 billion already realized.
Strength in Partnership
This milestone reflects close collaboration between defence forces and global partners, building readiness and capability to strengthen allied deterrence. The F-35 gives the UK a decisive edge by turning allied airpower into a truly integrated force, enabling UK pilots to train, operate and fight alongside allies with shared tactics, data and systems. This ensures the UK and its European allies can act faster, as one unified force, when it matters most.
Looking Ahead
The F-35 remains a critical connector for modern allied airpower, integrating data across air, space, sea and land domains for greater awareness and effectiveness. Designed for continuous upgrades, the F-35 evolves through regular software and hardware enhancements, ensuring it adapts to emerging threats and sustains the UK’s combat air advantage for decades.
