Press release by the Royal Netherlands Air Force:
Shahed drones fired by Russia posed a threat to NATO territory in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. That is why the Combined Air Operations Centre in Uedem alerted 2 of the F-35s that the Netherlands has stationed in Poland. The fighter planes took off immediately.
The intention was to destroy the Russians' unmanned projectiles when crossing an allied border. Weapon deployment turned out not to be necessary.
Due to operational safety, the Ministry of Defence does not provide any further details about this deployment.
The F-35s of the Netherlands have been securing NATO airspace over Eastern Europe since last Sunday.
