Marine Corps Air Station Yuma

The First Operational F-35 Base

Marine Corps Air Station Yuma is located in Yuma, Arizona, and is home to the first operational Marine Corps F-35 squadron, the Green Knights.

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 (VMFA-121) was the first operational F-35 squadron at Yuma and completed the first-ever F-35B vertical landing conducted outside of a testing environment. In June 2016, VMFA-211 was stood up as the second squadron based at Yuma.

VMFA-121 arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in January 2017, beginning the squadron’s permanent forward deployment at the air station.

At full operations, MCAS Yuma will host five F-35B squadrons, each with 16 aircraft, and one operational test and evaluation squadron with eight aircraft.
